10:30 AM EDT: Prevention and Management of Catheter Occlusion

Clinicians caring for central catheters must monitor carefully for complications that include catheter occlusion, which refers to the inability to infuse or withdraw fluids from a catheter. For timely medication administration, it is imperative to keep catheters patent. This session will discuss different types of catheter occlusion, assessment, troubleshooting, treatment, and prevention.

Learning Outcomes: After the session, attendees will be able to list types of catheter occlusions and discuss appropriate interventions for troubleshooting and prevention.
