1:30 PM EDT: Parenteral Nutrition: Complications and Management

Parenteral nutrition (PN) is essential for patients who are unable to obtain nutrition enterally because their gastrointestinal tract is nonfunctional or unable to absorb nutrients. Although PN is often life-sustaining, long-term use of PN increases the risk of complications, including infection, fatty liver, atrophy of the gut, and hepatobiliary dysfunction. This presentation will describe complications associated with long-term administration of PN and discuss appropriate assessment and interventions when managing care for these patients.

Learning Outcomes: After the session, attendees will be able to describe complications associated with long-term administration of PN and discuss appropriate assessment and interventions when managing care for patients.
