2:30 PM EDT: Supporting Care for Patients With Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic fibrosis (CF) affects nearly 30,000 Americans, and approximately 1,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. Advances in medical treatment have extended the lives of many children and adults with CF, many of whom live well into their forties. After a review of the disease process and the causes and pathophysiology of CF, infusion nurses will review the therapeutic treatment plan and antibiotic therapy regimen, and the role infusion nurses play in providing supportive care.

Learning Outcomes: After the session, attendees will be able to discuss the causes and pathophysiology of CF, describe standard antibiotic treatment for patients with CF, and apply new knowledge when providing supportive care for these patients.
