4:00 PM EDT: Is a Picture Worth 1,000 RADs?

Although confirmation of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) placement with PICC tip verification technology has been available since 2011, infusion nurses continue to seek strategies for transitioning from chest radiographic confirmation of PICC placement. Radiograph confirmation subjects patients to radiation (expressed in rads). At this session, the advantages and disadvantages of PICC placement by chest radiograph and PICC tip verification technology will be discussed. One PICC team's experience in this transition will be described, followed by strategies for a successful transition.

Learning Outcome: After the session, attendees will be able to discuss strategies to transition from chest radiographic confirmation in the placement of PICCs to PICC tip verification technology.
