5:30 PM EDT: Fresenius Kabi Evening Symposium - Manage the Safety Risks Associated with IV Push Medication Use

While much emphasis has been placed on the improvement of IV infusion safety, there remains limited published information on safe practices associated with IV push injection safety. Of concern is the increasing need for nurses to administer more medications via the IV push route and the frequent and unnecessary unit-based preparation and dilution of IV push medications, without established standard practice expectations.

During this program, faculty will describe common unsafe practices and at-risk behaviors associated with IV push medication use in adults.  A review of ISMP’s Guidelines for Safe Practice of Adult IV Push Medications and ISMP’s Gap Analysis Tool (GAT) for Safe IV Push Medication Practices will highlight strategies necessary for organizations to align best practices and reduce the mitigation of risk.

Learning Outcome: How to get involved in product evaluations. How to critically appraise research and standards of practice.
