9:00 AM EDT: A Tangled Web: Autoimmunity Combined With Immune Deficiencies

The immune system is a delicate balancing act which requires the collaboration of many cells and organs in the human body. Immunity comes in multiple forms: what we are born with and what we acquire as we live in this world. What happens when the immune system takes a wrong turn? What causes autoimmune diseases and what is the relationship between autoimmune disorders and immune deficiencies? This session will discuss the reasons our immune system can fail us and how to treat these complicated disorders.

Learning Outcomes: After the session, attendees will be able to describe the differences between innate and acquired immunity, the most common forms and autoimmunity, and the relationship between autoimmunity and immune deficiencies.
