Dr. Evelyn Chan, MBBS, MSc, DCH, is a pediatric doctor who is passionate about transforming children’s health care. She completed her Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery with Honors from Monash University, then trained and worked in pediatrics at The Royal Children’s Hospital, The Royal Women’s Hospital, and Eastern Health in Melbourne. Dr. Chan has received a Rhodes Scholarship to study medical anthropology and public health at the University of Oxford, where she focused her research on effective translation and delivery of health care across cultures and geographies. She has also worked at the Boston Consulting Group, specialising in public sector and health care strategy. During this time, she led the Young Leaders program for at-risk teens, and did pro bono work for the Jawun Development Program. Dr. Chan is now a doctorprenuer, as the CEO and cofounder of Smileyscope, which grew out of her own clinical experience. Smileyscope transforms pediatric needle procedures through patient-centred virtual reality, which decreases patient pain and anxiety and makes the procedures quicker and safer for clinicians. Tom Sutton is an accomplished visionary leader in medical device marketing, product development, and strategic alliances with a focus in the vascular access, IV therapy and infection prevention markets. Currently active as a marketing and strategy consultant, Tom previously served as Vice President of Marketing at B. Braun, where he led the marketing of a billion-dollar annual revenue portfolio of medical device and vascular access products. Tom helped B. Braun grow its vascular access and key IV therapy products to sustained above-market growth rates and negotiated key strategic alliances, adding critical product lines and technologies. Tom has also held director and senior level marketing and business development roles at Smiths Medical and Medex as well as sales and marketing leadership roles at Johnson & Johnson. Tom was an industry leader in the market change to needle-stick safety features for IV therapy and serves on the board of the International Safety Center, a nonprofit dedicated to sharps injury prevention. Tom is a co-inventor on multiple medical device patents, and holds a BS and MBA from the University of South Carolina, as well as executive education from The Wharton School.
