Peripheral Vision: A Closer Look at the Billions of PIVs Placed Around the World
Recorded On: 05/20/2015
Tunnel vision has provided an emphasis on the reduction of central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) and catheter-related bloodstream infection (CR-BSI) allowing hospitals and clinicians to improve outcomes through the use of insertion bundles, product innovations, and ultrasound. But the greatest tool in reducing central line placement is a safe, secure, and appropriately placed peripheral intravenous catheter. It is time to broaden our focus to include a peripheral intravenous bundle extending from education and training to the placement and maintenance of the most frequently used venous access device in the world.
