Emely Alfaro, DNP, RN, CNS, OCN, is the clinical nurse specialist for Adult Infusion Services at University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Health. She is an assistant clinical professor with the UCSF School of Nursing. Most of her nursing career has been in adult oncology, initially beginning in inpatient medical/surgical oncology specializing in Gastrointestinal tumors, Gynecological cancers, and Genitourinal cancers. For the last 15 years, she has been with infusion services. Dr Alfaro began as an infusion nurse and for the last 6 years has served in the role as the clinical nurse specialist (CNS). In her current role, she oversees many of the specialty programs for UCSF infusion such as the Cancer Acute Care Clinic, the intravesical program for bladder cancer, the Infusion Vascular Access Team ,and the Hepatic Arterial Pump program. Her research interests include difficult intravenous access (DIVA) in cancer patients, vascular access, and Oncology urgent care.
